Gratitude

This year, after the advice from a trusted mentor, I started a gratitude journal. My mentor suggested it during our conversation about ways to experience joy in business and in life. I started writing three simple things that I was thankful for every night (well, many nights. I often forget). I would writing things like “I am thankful that I made Jordyn laugh today,” or “I am thankful I got to sleep an extra 30 minutes.” I am sharing this, because this simple practice is helping me to redefine happiness. I am realizing that joy is not something that happens to you, it is a way of living. Joy is something you feel when you find ways to be thankful even when there is so much to be stressed about. It is a change in perspective. I still have a long way to go. However, I believe that having gratitude has helped me to find and maintain new clients, to develop new and old friendships, to appreciate my family more, to have the confidence to pursue my goals and to stop being to daggone hard on myself! Hopefully someone else can read this and find the same peace.
